The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is most accurately identified as a restoration movement as a result of many of its members sharing beliefs that are outside the beliefs of typical Christian ideology.

Much of the collective wisdom is a result of what Joseph Smith proclaims as a visit from God the Father and many angels in 1820. Joseph was told that he should not join any church, because all of them lacked truth, and that he should start his own church. The Mormon movement has its own book, which was translated by Joseph, and Mormons believe it to be the inspired word from God, just as the Bible is considered to be by Christians.
