Veterinary schools are also referred to as veterinary medicine schools, and many of them offer a number of different undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Length of the veterinary training programs can vary as well depending on which degree a student is pursuing.

Students wishing to become veterinarians will study disciplines such as cellular biology, trigonometry, and organic chemistry. The best veterinary schools will offer a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM or VMD) accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This degree is obtained from a four year medical education setting, but there are also associate's degrees available from veterinary assistant schools and veterinary technician schools.

Becoming a veterinary tech or veterinary assistant is a great way for students to get their hands on the career field to see how much they like it, without actually needing to become a veterinarian.
