College Officials' Perspective

American School Search has been contacted by a representative of Hollins University who expressed a different perspective of their campus safety. Our goal is to provide information that is both unbiased and detailed, especially so in regards to such a sensitive topic as campus safety.

Therefore, we have provided Hollins University with an opportunity to present their point of view below:

From: Jeff Hodges. Director of Public Relations

Message: The grade and statement are grossly inaccurate, and do a great disservice to us as well as to the prospective students and parents who might visit your website as part of their college search.

Our most recent Annual Security Report, which we produce and disclose in compliance with the Cleary Act, provides ample evidence that the Hollins campus is a very safe place in which to live, study, and work. One forcible sex offense was reported here in 2011 and none in 2012 or 2013. During this three-year period, there were no reported cases of murder, aggravated assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, motor vehicle theft, or arrests for illegal weapons possession.

Our efforts to serve and protect our campus community continue to evolve; in 2014, Hollins became the first women’s college in the nation to adapt the LiveSafe smartphone app to enhance communication between students and campus safety officials.
