The training to become a court reporter usually takes less than 1 year and is often awarded as a certificate of completion. Becoming highly skilled for some specialized jobs, such as a stenotypist, requires an associate’s degree and can take 2 years to complete.

Training usually occurs in a technical or vocational type of atmosphere, but can also be from a certified community college or four year institution.
