Trucking schools are highly abundant throughout the USA and can often be found as standalone institutions, or within technical schools and community colleges. There are currently almost 3.5 million truck drivers employed in America and continued growth is expected into 2014.

The driver training programs instructs students how to operate large vehicles, such as an 18-wheeler, throughout highways and city traffic. They also have written courses designed to educate student drivers about legal, ethical, and technical information pertaining to the transportation industry.

After the completion of the truck driver training, many graduates take the CDL (Commercial Driver's License) exam. Most trucking companies require students to obtain their CDL before hiring them on. To be eligible for a CDL, applicants must have a respectable driving record and pass both a written and practical exam.

Students can also attend school to become diesel mechanics, trucking insurance specialists, or sales representatives within the freight industry.
